Dean’s Message

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c.mult Bahri ÖztürkFirst of all, I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate you all for taking the first step in obtaining an education for a profession in law and justice. I welcome all of you and wish you all success during your studies.

The Faculty of Law at İstanbul Kultur University, which started to offer education in 1999, carries out its activities with a qualified and large academic staff.

We have aimed to provide high-quality, well-rounded, and modern legal education since our foundation. In order to achieve this main goal, the İKU Faculty of Law carries on its educational activities within the framework of the Great Leader Atatürk’s ideal of reaching a level of western civilization, in line with basic human rights, secularism, individual rights and freedoms, parliamentary democracy, freedom of thought and expression, social rights and the rule of law, which embraces all of these values. In other words, the essence of our educational policy consists of a Kemalist and modern education that changed the destiny of the nation and carried it to a bright future. Nonetheless, education in law does not mean teaching only the legal legislations, laws, regulations, and bylaws.

Beyond this pattern of education, our aim is to educate young prospective lawyers to avoid rote-learning, measure legal issues with the scales of logic and conscience, acquire the skills of modern interpretation, evaluate and balance adverse interests truthfully and pertinaciously, prioritize human rights, protect the state of law, and defend vulnerable individuals. We have graduated virtuous and qualified young lawyers through law and justice that provides great authorities and grants big responsibilities. I extend my best wishes to young lawyers, who are the judges, prosecutors, advocates, and academics of the near future and the guardians of territorial unity, the basic principles of the Turkish Republic, and peace and order. The Faculty of Law has made great strides since its foundation. Especially in recent years, the Faculty of Law has established academic relations with several faculties of European universities, particularly in Germany and Austria, and it has earned a very respectable reputation by organizing and attending national and international congresses, symposiums, and academic meetings.

I wish you all great success during your education, and I extend my best wishes. I truly believe that you will be beneficial to society.
